Lawn care
Weekly or fortnightly mowing and edging, plus the scarifying, aerating and overseeding a lawn actually needs once or twice a year.
The regular part is simple enough: mowing and edging every week or fortnight through the growing season, cut at a height that suits the time of year. The part most gardens miss is the once-or-twice-a-year work that keeps grass thick — scarifying out the thatch, aerating compacted ground and overseeding the thin patches. If your lawn is a wildflower or clover lawn, it gets left alone and cut once a year instead, which is what those lawns want. We mow with Ego battery machines for a cleaner, quieter cut, and we lay new turf where a lawn is past saving. We'll lay Astroturf if that's genuinely what you want, though we do try to avoid plastic in the garden if we can.

Bed care
Vegetable patches, ornamental borders and deliberately wild corners — weeded, pruned, reshaped and composted.
Beds are where a garden either looks looked-after or doesn't. We weed and prune them, take out plants that have had their day, reshape the edges so borders read as borders again, and put wire in where berry plants need protecting from the birds. Green waste goes on the compost rather than into a bag wherever it sensibly can. Vegetable patch, formal flower bed or a patch you want left wild for the insects — tell us which it is and it gets treated accordingly, because the three want completely different things. If a bed has gone past weeding, we'll clear it out entirely and start it again.

Hedge care
Hedges from a foot to fifteen feet cut and shaped — and an honest hand-off when they're taller than that.
We cut and shape hedges from about a foot high up to around fifteen feet, formal or informal, and clear up after ourselves. Timing matters as much as the cut: hedges get done outside nesting season, and at the point in the year that suits the species rather than whenever the diary is free. Above fifteen feet we stop and pass you to our friends over at Andrews of Kimpton, who are proper tree surgeons with the kit for it. We'd rather hand a job on than pretend a ladder makes us climbers.

Tree care
Smaller tree work — shaping, thinning, lifting crowns and clearing what comes down.
Smaller trees we take care of ourselves: shaping young trees, thinning growth that's crowding a border, lifting a low canopy off a lawn or path, taking out dead and crossing wood, and clearing the arisings so you aren't left with a heap of branches. Anything large-scale — big removals, serious surgery, anything that needs climbing — goes to Andrews of Kimpton. They're the people we'd ring for our own garden, so they're the people we recommend for yours.

Ponds
Pond maintenance treated as habitat stewardship — because a garden pond is the busiest thing in the garden.
A pond isn't an ornament, it's the single richest bit of habitat most gardens have: frogs, newts, diving beetles, voles and every bird in the neighbourhood coming down to drink. So we maintain ponds with that in mind — clearing and thinning growth in stages and at the right time of year rather than stripping a pond out in one go, keeping the planting balanced, and leaving cover for the things living in it. We've done a natural makeover on a neglected pond in Muswell Hill and replaced a failed liner in Wheathampstead, so we know both ends of the job: the gentle tidy and the full rebuild.

Planning & planting
A blank canvas planted from scratch, or existing beds filled out — with plants chosen for the actual spot.
Give us a blank canvas and we'll plan and plant the whole thing; give us beds you already like and we'll add to them. Either way it starts with the site, not a catalogue: what the sun does to that corner, how the wind runs through it, whether the soil holds water, and what you want out of the space. Scented things go near where you sit, not down the end where nobody walks. Cottage garden, something more exotic, or a wild and native jungle for the wildlife — all three are fair game, and Steven still throws in his thoughts on designs from France.

Poop scooping
Pet waste cleared daily, weekly, fortnightly, monthly or as a one-off, so the lawn is usable again.
This one started for the most practical reason there is: as gardeners we deal with missed pet poo all the time. So we made it a service rather than a grumble. We'll clear the garden daily, weekly, fortnightly or monthly, or come once and reset a garden that's got away from you — before a party, before the grandchildren visit, or before we mow, because nobody wants that going through a mower. It pairs neatly with a regular mowing visit, and it means the lawn is a lawn again rather than an assault course.

Odd jobs
Outdoor painting, sheds and garden furniture, and pressure washing — the jobs that never quite get done.
Three jobs that sit on a list for years and take an afternoon each. Outdoor painting: fences, trellis, railings and the shed, cleaned down and painted or stained so it lasts rather than flakes off by August. Sheds and outdoor furniture: flat-packs built, wobbly ones re-fixed and levelled, benches and tables cleaned, sanded and treated for the season. Pressure washing: patios, paths, decking, steps and driveways brought back to the colour they were meant to be, with the algae and black spot taken off. While we're already in the garden for a mow, these are quick to add on — just ask when you book.

The work gets done
Mowing and edging, bed care, hedges, small tree work, ponds, planting, poop scooping, painting a fence — whatever was quoted. Battery mowers where we can, a quieter cut, and the garden left tidy at the end of the visit.

Kept right through the year
Weekly, fortnightly, monthly, seasonally or as a one-off — whatever the garden wants. Lawns get scarified and aerated at the right point in the year, beds get cut back at the right point, and nothing lurches from jungle to scalped.

How do I get a quote, and what does it cost?
Quotes are free and there's nothing owed if you decide against it. Ring Will on 07519 384061, email monetgardeningqueries@gmail.com or message the Facebook page. He'll come and see the garden, walk it with you and price the job properly — you won't get a number over the phone for a garden nobody has looked at.
Do you do one-off visits, or only regular rounds?
Both. Plenty of gardens are on a weekly or fortnightly round; plenty are one big clearance and then nothing until next year. Poop scooping can be daily, weekly, fortnightly, monthly or a one-off. Start with whatever you actually need and change it later.
Who turns up?
Will. He quotes the job and he does the job, which is why reviews tend to be about him personally. Ernie, his dog, is usually along too — he's in more of the reviews than he has any right to be.
How tall a hedge will you cut?
From about a foot up to around fifteen feet. Above that, or for large-scale tree work, we hand you over to our friends at Andrews of Kimpton, who are proper tree surgeons. We'd rather pass a job on than take it on badly.
Do you take the green waste away?
Yes. Clippings, cuttings and cleared material go with us, and anything that can sensibly be composted is composted rather than binned. You're not left with a pile of bags and a trip to the tip.
What's in the odd jobs list?
Outdoor painting — fences, trellis, railings and sheds. Sheds and outdoor furniture — built, repaired, cleaned and treated. Pressure washing — patios, paths, decking, steps and driveways. They're easy to add to a visit you've already booked, so mention them when you get in touch.
What do you use to mow?
Ego battery machines for most lawns. They give a cleaner cut, they're far quieter for you and your neighbours, and there's no petrol smell hanging over the garden for the rest of the afternoon.
Which areas do you cover?
West Hertfordshire, from Wheathampstead — St Albans, Harpenden, Redbourn, Sandridge, Kimpton, Colney Heath and the villages in between. If you're in west Herts and not sure whether you're in range, just ask.
